Here in this entry, I will share with you my experience with St. Ives Green Tea Cleanser.

When I was still in college, especially during my 1stand 2nd years, I don’t usually have pimples and/or blemishes. But during my 3rd and 4th year, these blemishes started to occupy my face and back. So those were the days, and up until now I have some problems with pimples, blemishes and blackheads. And that is why I started looking for products that will suit my skin well, so I started researching.

Of course, I used the net to start gaining knowledge about pimples and blackheads and how they are formed. So basically, pimples and blackheads are caused by over production of oil in your face by your sebaceous glands. Naturally, they should get out of your skin and that will help your skin to be naturally moisturized. But if the pores of your skin is blocked or commonly known as “clogged” like your kitchen sink, the oil will not only get out of you face but will start to file up under your skin. As it hardens over time, it is what we call whiteheads. And when these whiteheads are exposed to air, they will turn into blackheads. (Whiteheads/Blackheads are also called comedones.) And when these comedones are irritated or exposed to more dirt, these will turn to what we know as pimples. So that’s how I understand it.

With my continuous research, I accidentally ended up with St. Ives website (click here to see the page). I am already using St. Ives products, which is the body lotion. I’ve been using it for years, so I’m quite confident with it.

My facial skin is quite oily and sensitive, that is why I guess I am prone to blackheads, blemishes and pimples. So I started looking for their products regarding facial skin problems, especially for the oily ones, and I ended up reading St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Cleanser. This product claims that it is dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, does not contain animal product, and is formulated without paraben and phthalates. And of course, its key ingredient is Grean Tea. According to their site, Green Tea is a natural winner over color red, because it is rich in Vitamin C and E. It is also known to soothe your skin and its antioxidant power protects it from unfriendly environmental factors and free radicals. These claims are quite impressive, so I dig more.

On the face of the product it says, “Clears breakouts and reduces redness. Salicylic Acid Acne Medication With 100% Natural Green Tea. I said to myself, wow this great since I am really prone to blemishes. But I didn’t know what Salicylic Acid is, so I researched on that. And I found out that Salicylic Acid is a substance found in plants. It encourages the skin to shed off dead skin cells. And dead skin cells are the reason why your pores are clogged. The other key ingredient of this product is Olive Leaf Extract which will keep your skin moisturized and protected since it also happens to be an antioxidant. So if these claims are true, this product will not only deeply cleanse your face but will also keep it moisturized. What I also like about this product is that it is formulated without paraben and phthalates which are known to have unhealthy side effects. It is also oil-free which is good since my face is already oily.

So after a few days, I decided to grab one and try it for myself. One additional good thing here is that it’s quite affordable. On my first wash, I’m really quite amazed. You feel your skin to be cleaner but not dry. Why did I say that? Because I have tried other products before, and most of them will turn my skin to super dry or still oily right after the wash. But this product won’t just clean your face but will keep it moisturized. But of course, it doesn’t replace the role of the facial moisturizer. I still suggest to use facial moisturizer after washing.

On my continuous usage (around a month), I am also using other products, which I will give its own review. I still experience a few breakouts, but I will consider it as hormonal. Girls, you already know this. So for me, it’s acceptable. And also maybe it is because before I use this product, I do have some blackheads that are already rooted to my skin, which I guess turned to pimples even after using this product. It doesn’t stop me to use the product. I read in an article regarding product testing, you should give at least 6 – 8 weeks for your product to work. And I’m glad I did. After around 2 months, this product gets well with my skin; it doesn’t irritate my skin but rather give me a softer, fresher and clearer skin. Before, when I sweat, I had a lot of blemishes. You know those red dots in your face. But as of now, I don’t suffer that anymore. Thanks to this product.

I actually want to recommend this product for oily and blemish prone skin, but if you already have you own product that is going well with your skin, stick with that. What may worked with me, may not work with you. We may have the same skin problem, but our skin may have different tolerance. And if you are still looking for a product to try with your skin problem; I suggest you give this product a try. If it does not work with your skin, don’t hesitate to stop using it. The best thing to do is to seek professional help and advice. In the end, it’s your face; you should be taking care of it. It may be costly, but it is the only set of skin you have, do take care of it.
